Privacy policy
This policy explains what information My Own Product processes, why it is used, how long it is retained, and the choices available to you.
1. Scope and operator
This policy applies to this website, its public catalog, registered accounts, submissions, reports, and first-party analytics. It does not govern independent websites reached through catalog links.
The operator of My Own Product is responsible for the information described here. Contact details appear at the end of this policy.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account details such as name, email address, password hash, verification status, and account role.
- Product submissions, descriptions, URLs, category selections, source information, and supporting evidence.
- Verification materials, listing reports, and correspondence.
Information collected automatically
- Qualified page requests, product detail views, and outbound tool clicks.
- A random first-party visitor identifier stored in a cookie and transformed into a one-way keyed hash before analytics storage.
- Limited request information used transiently for security, bot detection, rate limiting, diagnostics, and anonymous fallback measurement, such as IP address, browser user agent, referrer group, device group, and timestamps.
- Application and security logs containing request context and error details.
3. How we use information
- Provide accounts, catalog search, submissions, reports, and dashboards.
- Review listings, confirm provenance, detect duplicates, prevent fraud, and enforce service rules.
- Measure unique website use and unique product engagement without displaying personal visitor identities.
- Secure, debug, maintain, and improve the service and comply with applicable legal obligations.
4. Analytics and cookies
We use first-party cookies and similar technologies as needed to run the website, keep accounts signed in, and understand general use of the catalog. Product reports are aggregate.
5. When information is shared
We do not sell personal information. Information may be shared with:
- Infrastructure, hosting, email, and security providers that process data to deliver the service.
- Authorized catalog administrators and reviewers who need access for moderation, support, or fraud prevention.
- Authorities or other parties when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights and safety, investigate abuse, or respond to valid legal process.
- A successor involved in a merger, financing, reorganization, or sale, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.
Public product listings and submitter-provided product information are visible publicly. Account passwords, internal evidence, and visitor hashes are not published.
6. Retention
- First-party analytics events and daily aggregate counts have no scheduled age-based deletion. We keep recorded history to show long-term trends; data already removed under earlier settings cannot be recovered from the site.
- Analytics logs have no scheduled age-based deletion in the application.
- Account, catalog, moderation, and audit records are retained while needed to operate the service, keep required transaction records, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
Records may still be removed when required by law, in response to valid privacy requests, to resolve abuse, or when an account or product is deleted. Backups may retain deleted data temporarily until they rotate.
7. Security
We use access controls, password hashing, CSRF protection, rate limiting, encrypted or opaque public references, one-way analytics identifiers, audit records, and restricted administrative roles. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur.
8. Your choices and privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, or withdrawal of consent. You may also have the right to complain to a local data-protection authority.
- Update information available through your account or contact us for other corrections.
- Request account or personal-information deletion, subject to records we must retain.
- Report inaccurate public product information from the relevant product page.
We may need to verify your identity before completing a privacy request.
9. Children's privacy
The account and submission features are not directed to children who cannot legally provide their own consent under applicable law. If you believe a child provided personal information improperly, contact us so we can review and remove it where required.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the service, legal requirements, or data practices change. The version published on this page is the current policy. Material changes will be communicated through the website or account contact details when reasonably appropriate.
11. Contact
Privacy questions and requests can be sent to support@myownproduct.site. Include enough information for us to identify your account or request without sending passwords or other sensitive credentials.
